I will deviate from my normal posts of paintings to share some notes about a lecture I would give to my children if they would pay attention (they often do – they are great kids!). It concerns the anatomy of everyday desires such as the desire to buy a new computer game (I am using the game “Far Cry” as an example). Here is how it goes:

My wife and I normally go for a walk early morning if weather permits. This week I ended up alone on my walk in dense mist. At the top of a hill near us I took the photo below of the Waikato landscape clouded in mist with that one, thin warm streak of early sun near the horizon. I painted #46 shortly after that. Still in the fruitful dark, though at present it does not feel so fruitful! I have two works in progress but nothing new to show yet, so I will post an old painting from my last fairly consistent run of oil paintings around 2005.

Today I sunk away into the familiar fruitful dark. The past few days I felt confident entering the studio, I liked my last two paintings and felt I had a method to work from concept to something I liked.
